Current age of baby 4m3w6d

Birth weight/current weight 7lbs5oz - 4mo appointment was 13lbs6oz

Birth length/current length 20in - 4mo appointment 25 3/4

Is your baby BF or bottlefed? Breastfed/EBM mostly for the first 3 months, now formula.

Is your baby on solids? What? How many times a day? Cereal added to two of his bottles. Hates in off the spoon. Decided to stop trying the rice and just tried Squash a few days ago and loves it. He gets that when I get home at 6:00.

Does your baby have a pacifier? Yes, uses it only to fall asleep....well he loves to pick it up, tries to get it into his mouth, can't quite do it, gets mad and throws it on the floor. Repeat.

Is your baby swaddled? He was. He weaned himself off, he would unwrap after a while and progress to unwrapping within seconds of putting him down.

Does your baby have any teeth? No. Another boat floater thou with the drooling. He started drooling at 6wks.

Did you have a vaginal birth or c-section? Vaginal. If you count from when contractions started it was 27 hours. I think it was more like 9 hours with 1/2 hour of pushing. Epidural and yes, some tearing.

What I love about Aiden

The first smile in the morning.
Naptime when we both sleep cuddled up.
His georgeous eyes.
When I see myself in him.
He made me a Mom.
The way he holds on to my shirt.
When he sucks his toes.
How he talks to me like he is telling me a story.
When he kicks the changing table like he is running a marathon.
The way he clasps his hands.
How he slabbers my face with his kisses.
His soft skin. His long eye lashes.

One Month

The understatement of the year is that you have changed our lives. One month later and I cannot remember what it is like to sleep for 8 straight hours and from what I hear, I will be a light sleeper as long as you live with us. I have to admit that it has been hard for me to adjust, but everyday is a little easier.

You had lots of firsts obviously..You peed on me, your dad. You pooped as soon as we took your diaper off on the White Sox blanket they gave us at the hospital. This happened in front of your grandfather and he will not let you live it down. You look very peaceful when you are asleep.

You have many different cries that took us a while to figure out. There is the whining cry when you want attention and you make a sound that sounds like a cat. Meeeaaaawwww. There is the hungry cry, it is a consistant light cry. There is the I'm tired cry, this one has been the most difficult for us. You use this when you've had too much distraction and need to sleep. Your face gets really red and you make yourself sweat and it is much louder that all the other cries. You make a Maaaauuuu cry that sounds like you are saying MOM. The only one that is worst is the I'm tired and hungry cry. Much like the last one but it gets even louder, if that is possible, and you shreik. It sounds like you are in pain and there is nothing we can do to help. This has brought me to tears.

At your 1 week appointment you weighed 7lbs 8oz and were 21in tall. At your 1 month visit you weighed 8lbs 10oz. You are defenetly growing despite my inconsistant feeding. I have been pumping and feeding EBM in a bottle, while trying to breast feed you, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and supplementing with formula.

You hated baths at first, but now you love them.

You and I have not been out of the house too much. I am building my confidence a little at a time. I'm scared of not having everything I need while we are out. On your 1 month b-day we took a trip downtown to see my co-workers and have lunch with your aunty Eunice. You wailed in the car and I stopped twice before I made it 1 mile away from the house. I didn't think we could make it, but we did. You have been to the doctor's office, grocery shopping, to both your grandparents house, Jose's and Eunices place, and to my work.

Your cousin Cynthia was born on May 7th, 11 days after you.

Birth Story

Before amnisia sets in. Here are the details of Aiden Michael's birth.

I planned on working till the bitter end, but on Monday April 25th, 4 days past due, it hit me. Why the hell did I want to do that to myself. So I asked for a sign to let me know I shouldn't go to work. Sure enough, I went to the bathroom and got gobs of bloody show. That was it, maternity leave had started for me. I called the doctor to move my appointment up from 6:00pm to 3:00pm. I went for a long walk, sat on my birth ball and then headed out for the doc appointment. I was monitored for 20 minutes. All looked good, except my blood pressure was 140/95. When they took it again it was 145/100. The doctor came in and said I would deliver the next day. I agreed as I was ready to go. I was to be at the hospital at 5:00am. As soon as I left the office I started getting regular contractions. I think the doctor might has stripped my membraines to get me started. They were 10 minutes apart. Felt like mild AF cramps but in my back. They seemed to have stopped or slowed down at 11pm. So we headed off to sleep. Contractions started again at 1:30am and were much stronger. Some of them pretty painful. Couldn't sleep so I took a shower at 3:45am. Then got the phone call posponing the induction till 11:00am. Everyone went back to sleep, except for me. Side note....my sister the labor coach came by to spend the night, Mom and Dad were still living with us. Their closing on their new house was at 3:00pm the next day. My brother came by to work, so we had a pretty busy household in the morning. All the while my contractions were getting stronger and were now 5 minutes apart. I was crossing my fingers that I would not need pitocin after all. We got to the hospital at 11:00 and checked in. Was very happy that the room looked like a hotel room instead of a hospital. We met Kim, our nurse and she was wonderful, soft spoken and very concerned with my well being. She monitored me for a while but my contractions seemed to have gotten really irregular. I got through getting the IV after two tries. That was probably the worst part of labor. She started pitocin at 1:00pm and kept it a minimum for 15 minutes, she then upped it to a 2. Contractions got pretty regular at 3 minutes apart but pretty managable. My sister and husband helped me get through each contraction. At about 4:00pm, they both got side tracked and I got left alone for about 10 minutes. The lack of support through each contraction made them seem unbearable. I really have to stress how wonderful it was to have support, because when I didn't have it, it was much worse. Kim adviced me that if I was considering the epidural, I might want to request it earlier than expected because the anestisialogist could take a while getting there. I got the epidural around 5:00pm. I was really scared about the procedure, but my husband helped me get through it. Everyone says this, but once the epidural went in, I felt like a million bucks. Kim told me that the next 3 contractions would feel less and less painful, but when the next one hit, I didn't feel a thing. Michael tickled my feet for fun and again, didn't feel a thing. All the internal checks after that, didn't feel a thing. At 6:00 I was checked again and I was at 8 cm. I was checked again at 7:00 and I was complete according to two different nurses. When the doctor came in at 7:45 she broke my water and checked me, but told me I was only a good 8. Both nurses rolled their eyes as they knew I was much further along. The nurse made a comment that by the time the doctor thought it was time, the baby would be starting college. I got moved around a little bit because Aiden was under stress. I was glad she made me wait to push because by the time she had me start, the baby was already way down there. She had my epidural turned off so I can feel the contractions and know when to push. I started pushing at 8:45. It took a couple of pushes to learn to do it right. It was amazing to feel the head coming out, and even more amazing to feel the rest of the body coming. I felt shoulders, body, knees and feet. I thought it would all come out at once, not slowly and feeling every body part. Overall, I didn't think it was that bad. The worst part of it was afterward. Aside from the stiches, they gave me a full bag of pitocin to get my uterus to contract. It felt like one long but mild contraction. On top of that, the nurses kept pushing on my stomach every 15 minutes.

I feel really blessed to have had a good delivery. Aiden Michael was born Tuesday April 26th at 9:29pm weighing 7lbs 5oz. He was 20 inches long and his apgar scores were 9 and 9.

Having written in a while. Will def. catch up soon. Just a reminder for myself. Remember to write about how it feels to have Aiden move around in my belly. I can't forget that. Also, just want to write about what a great time of the year it is now. The first signs of Spring are here and I just know Aiden is just around the corner.

27w4d Full Moon

Bad update on me - I went to my appointment today and I learned that I FAILED my 1 hour gloucose test. It should be 140 or less and mine was 147. I now have to do a 3 hour test. I thought OK, I drink the soda-like goo and wait three hours right? NOOOOOO! I will have blood drawn before I drink the goo, and also at the one hour mark, two hour mark and three hour mark. How is that for fun? My doctor of course gave me the biggest lecture on gestational diabetis. Needless to say I feel horrible.

Everything else still looks good. Urine sample was OK, Blood Pressure was 110/70. Heartbeat was 147. Measuring right. Hey do you think his heartbeat influenced my glucose test results?
